En 1995 científicos de la UNAM encontraron un fósil de langosta en una cantera del poblado El Espinal, Chiapas. Luego de más de 10 años de estudios, determinaron que se trata de un fósil del periodo Cretácico, de hace 110 millones de años, lo que lo convierte en el más antiguo del continente americano.
